Eastern Mediterranean University, Foreign Languages and English Preparatory School‘s 6th Workshop Festival was held last week.

Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU), Foreign Languages and English Preparatory School (FLEPS) held their annual workshop festival on the 27th of June 2019. The 6th Workshop Festival was on Thursday and it was held in the FLEPS B building on the South Campus. As in previous workshop festivals, this year again this one day event was supported by FLEPS teachers, Education Faculty staff members, postgraduate and undergraduate students. Just as in previous years, there were four concurrent sessions, but this year there was also a Special Interest Group installation, which was open for viewing by participants all day.

The morning session of the 6th Workshop Festival started with reading of a poem entitled “Teacher” by Alan Maley, which was read aloud by all the workshop festival participants. This was then followed by the opening speeches from the FLEPS Director and FLEPS Teacher Development and Training Unit Coordinator. The first plenary speaker in the morning was Yeşim Eraslan. Eraslan has worked in many different positions in her long teaching career. She now works at Bilkent Laboratory International School (BLIS) as an English support teacher and is a board member of TESOL in Turkey. In the afternoon, the closing plenary speaker was Asst.Prof.Dr. Bahar Gün. Gün is currently working as the Head of the Teacher Development Unit in the School of Foreign Languages at İzmir University of Economics. And she is also the president of the TESOL Turkey Association and an Executive Board member of DEDAK, a Turkish national accreditation body.

Throughout the day, there were various presentations, workshops by teachers and post graduate students. The themes presented varied from using different technological tools in class, yearlong classroom research findings, using alternative teaching methods and giving reflective feedback. The event ended with a closing speech by the Workshop Festival Committee Coordinator and the annual grand raffle.
